Zinc Stearate: A Multi-Purpose Additive for Plastics, Rubber and Paints
28 Sep 2026
Zinc stearate is a white powder made from zinc and stearic acid. It melts and spreads easily, so it works as a lubricant inside and outside plastic and rubber mixtures.
As a mould-release agent it stops products sticking to moulds. In PVC it supports stabilisation, and in paints it helps sanding and gives a matt finish. It is also used in cosmetics and powder metallurgy.
Using the right grade gives smoother processing, better surface finish and less waste. Calcium stearate is a close alternative for some jobs.
